The תקוני זהר says that the first twenty four days of Kislev are כנגד the twenty four letters of the  ברוך שם כבוד, and Chanuka on כה כסלו is כנגד the twenty five letters in שמע ישראל.. Therefore we see that the entire month of כסלו is connected to חנוכה. Both סיון and כסליו are sister months, both times of קבלת התורה, and in both months we eat dairy סיון=126=כסליו. The בני יששכר says he descended from one of the חכמים on the בית דין that established Chanuka. We see that the  בני יששכר is the one sefer that speaks the most on the topic of חנוכה. He writes that יששכר was conceived on שבועות, from the story of the דודאים in Parshas ויצא ל:יד where Reuvan went out and found the דודאים in בימי קציר חטים, which is Shavuos. The בני יששכר says that יששכר was born on חנוכה, as it says in pasuk ל:טז וישכב עמה בלילה הוא  בלילה הוא =89=חנוכה.

Rav Chaim Vital writes that גלות ישמעאל is the fifth and hidden Galus, and the worst part of the גלות is when Esav joins with Yishmael. In the מעוז צור that we have a custom to sing on Chanuka, all the different גלויות are mentioned- קץ בבל and אגגי בן המדתא – פרס, יונים נקבצו עלי – יון and דחה אדמון בצל צלמון – אדום. On Chanuka, the last י”ט, we receive a light of the future, whose purpose is to light up the darkness of the Galus הדלקת נר חנוכה ממ שין יוד חית =878=.   The פרי צדיק says that the word חשך is the acronym of   חמור –Yishmael, שור –Esav, and כלב – Amalek. This is the power of the thick darkness at the end of the last Galus. The יונים encompass all of this רע combined. This is the fifth Galus that ר” חיים ויטל writes about – חמור שור כלב=812=גלות החמישי. It is necessary for Esav and Yishmael to join together, in order to bring the final גאולה. The מהר”ל says that מלכות ישמעאל is unique in that it’s from Hashem himself and not connected to the other מלכויות. The other empires exist and have power only when מלכות ישראל is down, as it says  ולאם מלאם יאמץ, where רשי says כשזה קם זה נופל. However  מלכות ישמעאל, is the only one that has Hashem’s name א-ל in it, and so has its own entity. The גאולה from this Galus can come whether we deserve it or not. If we deserve it, then the Geula will come in a miraculous way, but if we don’t deserve it, then it will come slowly and not so miraculous עני רוכב על חמור-.

The גלות אדום is intensified when the עם ישראל are having a low, and the opposite is also true. So really the joining of Esav and Yishmael ultimately is to our benefit. The ישמח משה says there will be a time where our only זכות will be ברית מילה. Yishmael also has some form of ברית that is w/o פריעה, but we have the עקידה. According to ב”ש, we light Chanuka candles in decrease mode כנגד the פרי החג, which decreased by one every day- 13 bulls then 12 …and so on. This symbolizes that חנוכה is the י”ט of the מפלה of Esav and Yishmael-  קץ שם לחשך. The way to fight ישמעאל is to be like יששכר who is  חמור גרם, which is עבודת הויה. The חמור also represents משיח בן דוד-   עני רוכב על חמור, which we wouldn’t have to come on to, if there was no גלות ישמעאל. The מאור עינים says that Avraham saying to Yishmael שבו לכם פה עם החמור ואני והנער נלכה עד כה “You ישמעאל when you are giving the yidden hard times, we have חנוכה – כה כסלו to protect us.

The בני יששכר says that Rivka saying in pasukכז:מה  –  למה אשכל גם שניכם יום אחד, implied that Esav and Yaakov would be buried on the same day. Yaakov was buried on Chanuka, and Esav was killed on that same day by חשים. The  חתם סופרsays that when Yaakov said to Esav מכרה כיום את בכרתך לי, the כיום is the day that he will be buried in מערת המכפלה. The כיום is with a pasach under the כ, and therefore means כ-היום or יום כה – Chanuka. Unkelas translates  כיום as דלהן, and חנוכה=89=דלהן And so Chanuka is the day we experience the downfall of Yishmael and Esav, the head of all the seventy nations.

As we said from R’ Chaim Vital, גלות ישמעאל is the hidden Galus, the fifth Galus which is כנגד the יחידה. On חנוכה the hidden light is somewhat revealed, after the oil for the מנורה was hidden under the ground- בהסתר. In תהילם סח:טו it says בפרש שדי מלכים בא תשלג בצלמון The Ari Tzal says that there is a Gehenom of fire and a Gehenom of ice. This תשלג בצלמון is referring to the Gehenom of ice. Yishmael represents the עקרב which has the letters קר in the middle, hinting to the poison of the עקרב which freezes the nervous system. On the other hand the נחש has a burning venom. The Gehonom of fire is represented by Esav, אדום- hot, and the Gehenom of ice is represented by ישמעאל -תשלג בצלמון.

The גאולה will come quicker, even when we don’t deserve it, when דחה אדמון, when Esav is pushed בצל צלמון under the shadow of Yishmael. Chanuka is the י”ט to counter these two forces-  שלג=333=נר חנכה=333=האדמון והצלמון. Chanuka is the י”ט to counter the שלג, the freezing sting of Yishmael. In the very last pasuk, which begins וילך עשו אל ישמעאל, the long Rashi speaks of the חשבון that Yaakov was sixty three years old when he received the ברכות, and he also says that Yaakov was נטמן בבית עבר י”ד שנים, learning Torah. We began the Parsha with יעקב being an   איש תם ישב אהלים, that יעקב learnt Torah his whole life,  אהלים–T.B.C. and T.B.P., the revealed Torah, and so what is the חידוש here that Yaakov learnt for fourteen years by ישיבת עבר? The pasuk says נטמן, hid- hinting that Yaakov learnt a higher level of Torah, תורת הנסתר, the Torah of חנוכה. To battle the great power of Esav and Yishmael, we need the deeper and stronger side of Torah, which is the  סתרי תורה which is becoming more and more revealed in our times.

In the dream of Daniel, the רגל represented both אדום and ישמעאל, where Yishmael is the bottom of the foot, the עקב, the main force to reckon with in the עקבתא דמשיחא. As the בעל הטורים says that with the על פני כל אחיו נפל, when Yishmael falls then ..   הנה אנכי שולח לכם את אליהו הנביא=1096=ואלה תולדות יצחק.

When these two powers join together, it seems we have no hope, however we have the great י”ט of Chanuka- –  גלות ישמעאל=890=נר חנוכה משמאל ולמטה מ-י.

The נר חנוכה being on the left, and below ten tefachim, means that the light could descend way into the קליפות, and be the force to eradicate the גלות ישמעאל. The מזל of כסלו is the קשת which counters the קשת of ישמעאל. The עקרב and the קשת also refer to יון, the force of טומאה in the Chanuka story. After Esav joins with ישמעאל which brings עמלק (the רע part of עשו), the חמור שור כלב, the third בהמ”ק will be revealed בית השלישי=1067=עשו ישמעאל עמלק.

 There were three wells that were dug by Itzhak עשק שטנה ורחובות. The Ramban says that the three wells refers to the first, second, and third בהמ”ק, where רחובות, the well of “no fights”, no מחלוקות, refers to the בית השלישי. The בעל הטורים says that the wells refers to the גליות, where עשק is בבל, שטנה is פרס (Haman hated the Jews), and רחובות is-יון  שור חמור כלב=812=עתה הרחיב הויה לנו (ופרינו בארץ)חנוכה The Greeks decreed to nullify the mikva, to prevent פרו ורבו, more Jewish children, but the  בעל הטורים says that there was a miracle onחנוכה , and every Jewish home had a kosher mikva   כי עתה הרחיב הויה לנו ופרינו בארץ-  להדליק נר חנוכה=518=פריה ורביה . Chanuka is the extension of ר”ה יה”כ the day also associated with mikve-לפני הויה תטהרו . The first mitzva is פרו ורבו and the last, Chanuka- חנוכה משמאל=500=פרו ורבו. There is also a פרו ורבו of רוחניות is bringing yidden who are out, into the fold. Chanuka is the י”ט that is מבטל and מכניע the קליפה of עשו ישמעאל and עמלק.

Every עליה in Parshas Toldos has a Bracha in it. Toldos is the sixth Parsha in Chumash, the ו, the Parsha of הוספה. Chanuka as we know is the י”ט of הוספה –מוסיף והולך. Shavuos is the T.B.C. and חנוכה is T.B.P. which is part of the Torah which we could add to- הוספה. The lighting one then two then three candles-  ברכה=227=ח חנ חנכ חנכה is called אחוריים in Gematria, and denotes הוספה. The Greeks wanted us to forget the part of Torah that is שייך to forget, which is T.B.P., and so on Chanuka there was a התגלות of T.B.P. to combat the philosophy of the יונים. The Torah which seperates us from the goyim is T.B.P.- לא כרתי ברית אלה עם ישראל , where T.B.P. is called ברית – את האור כי טוב is ס”ת ברית. The י”ט of חנוכה is aהוספה ברית=612=מעלין בקודש. The Greeks were battling the הבדלה of the yidden, that is all the main things that separate the yidden from the nations מילה חודש and שבת.  T.B.P. is גנוז in תורה שבכתב.  T.B.P. is the revelation of the hidden, just like Chanuka. The word כסלו has in it, the thirty six or לו Mesechtas which have Gemorras, which were hidden כס, and then revealed in the thirty six candles of Chanuka. T.B.C is limited, however T.B.P is constantly expanding and renewing itself.

 The פרו ורבו in רוחניות is the T.B.P. The ענין of תולדות, birth is hidden (in womb) and then revealed, and if we look closely, every Parsha in the month of Kislev talks of birth. Kislev is the ninth month, connected with תשע ירחי לידה.  Parshas Toldos has in it the births of Yaakov and Esav, Parshas ויצא has in it the births of the שבטים, Parshas וישלח has in it the birth of Binyamin, Parshas וישב has in it the births of Peretz and Zerach, and Parshas מקץ has in it the births of Menashe and Efraim. The coming of משיח is called a birth- משיח is the acronym מדליק שמונה ימי חנוכה. When משיח comes there will be a revelation of the פנימיות of תורה, which is also תורה שבעל פה.  T.B.P. was first taught in the Mishkan, and so on חנוכה we lain –   ויהי ביום כלות משה להקים את המשכן. Rav Tzadok says that if not for the חטא העגל, we would have needed only חומש and ספר יהושע. We would have not needed T.B.P, as it says in Mishle ברוב חכמה רוב כעס, meaning the more sin there is in the world, the more Hashem is angry, and the more T.B.P is needed to compensate.

Moshe taught the T.B.C to כלל ישראל, and Aharon taught T.B.P. , since the לוים didn’t participate in the חטא העגל. The מנורה represents T.B.P., where the six lights (ששה סדרי משנה) face the center light which represents T.B.C. The תורה שבעל פה has to be rooted in   תורה שבכתב. Maybe this is a peshat of what Rashi says on Aharon’s lighting the Menorra להגיד שבחו של אהרון שלא שינה, that he didn’t deviate, as the T.B.P does not deviate from the T.B.C.  Most mitzvos are performed in the day and on the right, except for  נר חנוכה which is lit at night and on the left and outside. T.B.P. is learned at night as Moshe knew it was night when Hashem taught him T.B.P.  The left side represents גבורה, and T.B.P. is the גבורה of the אש of Torah. T.B.P. is on the חוץ of T.B.C.  This is all the domain of Esav- night, חוץ and שמאל. Sefarim say that much of T.B.P. is from Esav. Rebbi Akiva is main teacher of T.B.P. where משניות סתם are based on ר”ע and ר” מאיר. Yaakov was afraid to kill Esav   שמא יהרג את אחרים, where אחרים refer to Rebbi Meir. עשו is the acronym of עקיבא שמעיה ואבטליון -T.B.P. Yaakov had to go into the domain of Esav and extract the sparks of קדושה found there.

In the future there will be a tikun for Esav. His head is in the  מערת המכפלה. The Bracha that יצחק gave Yaakov is a Bracha of T.B.P.- ויתן לך האלקים where Rashi says יחזור ויתן ויתן– הספה. Also  ויתן begins with a ו, the letter of הספה. In the future, the world will be conducted by מדת הדין like the way it was originally created   סוף מעשה במחשבה תחילה. Also these ברכות will take place only in the future. This is not the אלה-ים of צמצום, but of the בריאת העולם. Chanuka is the אור of the זמן of משיח. We say ויתן לך on מצ”ש because מצ”ש is a בח” of שמיני, where either it’s the first day of the following week, or the eighth day. So Chanuka being connected with 8-שמיני is similar to ויתן לך which is also futuristic, and is always read at the beginning of כסלו. The ילקות ראובני brings a מדרש that Tishre is מזל מזנים the scales, and this is when we are being judged. Then מרחשון is the עקרב which is  גיהנםand כסלו is the קשת where those that are in Gehenom fly out like an arrow. The

בני יששכר brings down that there are 108 words in the על הניסים- גיהנם =108.  Saying על הניסים on חנוכה protects us from גיהנם. We said that Chanuka being on the twenty five of Kislev has to do with the twenty five words in the שמע ישראל. On Chanuka we declare the oneness of the Almighty. Also קשת –בקשתי refers to tefilla, which has have כוונה like a bow shooting the arrow with perfect aim.  רב צדוק says כסלו comes from, or is מרומז in כסלך which means בטחון. Chanuka is the י”ט of בטחון when we are not worried to enter into the boundary of Esav- נכון לבו “בטוח” ביה-וה סמוך which is ס”ת הנוכה. The ספר יצירה says that Kislev was created with the letter ס, to be a סמיכה for the month of מרחשון which was created with a נ –  מלך המשיח=453=סומך הויה לכל הנופלים. The אור of מלך המשיח is revealed on Chanuka הקל קול יעקב=453=מלך המשיח. The Mishne says that the פתילות and שמנים that we cannot light with on שבת, because one might come to adjust them since they are not of the best quality, one can use them on Chanuka מדליקים בחנוכה. The word נפש is the acronym for נר פתיל שמן, and so the נפשות that Shabbos doesn’t affect, on Chanuka they are affected and awakened. On חנוכה we see even the lowest yidden light candles. The אור of Chanuka is the יחידה which is awakened and revealed in every yid-

בחמשה ועשרים בכסלו=1099=נפש רוח נשמה חיה יחידה=1099 

בימי מתתיהו בן יוחנן=1099=לו נרת של חנכה Every yid has a tikun on חנוכה, and every yid has a פך שמן that was not touched (the יחידה).

Chanuka is the י”ט to eradicate the left, the liberalism. In pasuk כה:כג it says ויאמר הויה לה שני גיים בבטנך, where גיים =63. The קריאה is גוים, and so if we put both the קריאה and the כתיבה we get גויים –להדליק נר חנכה=512=שני גויים בבטנך. The בעל הטורים says that Yaakov received the Brachos when he was 63 years old, and after the seven nations in א”י were destroyed there remained 63 nations that destroyed the בית שני (Baal HaTurim). The Ari Tzal says that Chanuka has to do with the name of Hashem that equals סג, that is יוד הי ואו הי. The name חנוכה is made up of חנה =סג =63, and the peshat name of Hashem הויה =26=כו )63+26=89=חנוכה).

The Targum Yonason says עתידה שפרס תפול ביד רומי. The last fall will be the fall of Iran, פרס and then will sprout up מצמיח קרן לדוד. In Parshas לך לך טו:יב it says  והנה אימה חשכה גדולה נופלת עליו where Avraham was shown ברית בן הבתרים –

וצונו להדליק נר חנוכה=676=נפלת עליו. Chanuka is the time for the נפילה of the nations. The שר שלום of Belz says Yitzhak is 8 times   —שם הויה 8 x 26 = 208 = יצחק, and Yaakov is 7 x 26 = 182 = יעקב. When יצחק bentched Yaakov, he gave him seven ברכות out of the eight Brachos. The eighth Bracha of יצחק went to עשו after Esav said הברכה אחת היא לך אבי ברכני גם אני. Esav is seven x טמא plus one Bracha 26 or 7 x 50=350+26=376=עשו. 

The harp of משיח will be with eight strings למנצח על השמינית, and the מנורה will have eight קנים – יאירו שבעת הנרות, where the seventh will point to the centre, the eight. Chanuka goes into the domain of Esav, into טבת, to draw out the sparks of קדושה in the eighth Bracha. The general function of the yidden is to gather sparks of קדושה in this eighth Bracha. Yaakov puts on Esav’s clothes and uses שקר in the עולם השקר, but with a true אמת purpose, whereas Esav uses אמת to find שקר. The eighth Bracha was in pasuk כז:לט –   הנה משמני הארץ יהיה מושבך ומטל השמים מעל, however the fat of the land was given already to Yaakov. What was left to give to Esav? Rashi says איטליאה של יון, and even though it’s not the same יון, it’s still the יון of כפירה, philosophy, and darkness – חשך. From this  משמני הארץ sprouts Chanuka, the אור השמיני – משיח. Yaacov has to retrieve this eighth Bracha where the souls of Rebbi Akiva, Rebbi Meir, שמעיה ואבטליון are found. This is where the source of T.B.P. is found, in משמני which represents משנה. Esav was killed on Chanuka by חשים בן דן – חודש שבת מילה , of which all of them were referred to as אות. These were the mitzvos that the Greeks decreed to abolish, but what was restored by the חשמוניאים on חנוכה . Chanuka always has a ר”ח, always at least one שבת, and is eight days כנגד ברית מילה. Teves is in the boundary of Esav, and represents שבט דן- the lowest yid, however דן – חושם בן דן has the ability to remove the head of Esav, and retrieve the sparks of קדושה of the eighth Bracha. In the future, the entire eighth Bracha will be in the domain of יעקב. Yaakov’s name was changed to ישראל-  לי ראש, the name of the future- נר חנכה יצחק=541=ישראל. The נר חנוכה is a future light תשבי=712=את האור כי טוב ויבדל=712=8x חנוכה.

Pinchas is אליהו  פינחס =8 x 26 =208. Beit Shammi holds that on חנוכה we light in decreasing mode פותח והולך learned from the decreasing פרי החג which is found in Parshas פינחס.

In the Bracha of תקע בשופר, a yid should have כוונה of the name  חיל בלע ויקאנו- חבו which is also the acronym ותן חלקנו בתורתך. The קליפה spits out the sparks of קדושה that it swallowed. Chanuka has the ability of gathering up these sparks   נר חנכה=333=חיל בלע יקיאנו

Chanuka affects all yidden and is the י”ט of קבוץ גלויות –

מקבץ נדחי עמו ישראל=961=הרחב הויה לנו ופרנו בארץ.

There is a story of a מוסר in Poland who was causing such trouble that the Rabbis came to the חוזה מלובלין to ask that he pray that he should die. He said that he couldn’t. A few weeks later, they came back with the same complaint, however this time the חוזה מלובלין  said okay, and the מוסר suddenly passed way. The Rabbis asked why it didn’t succeed the first time, and the חוזה מלובלין told them that it was a couple of days after חנוכה, and since this מוסר lit the חנוכה candles, he was protected. Chanuka is the המשך of יה”כ  when we daven five tefillos in order to light up the חמש חלקי הנשמה. Hashem, in pasuk כה:כג said to Rivka ורב יעבד צעיר, that Esav is supposed to serve Yaakov. Here we see that quality- צעיר is more important than quantity- רב. This is very evident on Chanuka- a little pure oil which was enough to burn for one day, burnt eight days, thirteen   holy Maccabies defeated the entire Greek army, and all that’s written in the על הנסים —וטמאים ביד טהורים מסרת גבורים ביד חלשים ורשעים ביד צדיקים.   Size does not matter –  וצונו להדליק נר חנכה=670=ורב יעבוד צעיר. Chanuka is rooted in בינה, and Rivka was the one that had בינה יתירה as she gets the credit that Yaakov received the Brachos and not Esav. Rivka told Yaakov to enter into Esav’s boundary by dressing up in his clothes, and by taking the Brachos. Yaakov was removing the sparks of קדושה found in Esav. Many say that these clothes had the קדושה of theבגדי כהונה הגדולה. Pasuk כז:טו says that Rivka took the clothes of Esav בנה הגדול and gave them to Yaakov בנה הקטן. Now we know that Esav was older, in that he was born first? So why say בנה הגדול? This was all to emphasize that Esav was much bigger than Yaakov, and so were his clothes, however when Yaakov put them on, they fit like a glove. This is similar to when small דוד המלך put on King Saul’s clothing and armor to fight Goliath, and miraculously the clothing fit. When Yitzhak heard that Esav sold hisבכור  rights to Yaakov, he also agreed that he should get the Brachos בכור gets ברכה. Yitzhak now tells Yaakov to go to פדנה ארם which is to the left of א”י. This is similar to the mitzva of Chanuka lights, which are on the outside and on the left. In the last few pesukim, it is written פדנה ארם four times. This, the sefarim say refer to the four exiles, spearheaded by Mitzraim – מצרים=380=פדנה ארם.  

Since both Sara and Rivka had the insight to separate Yishmael and Esav from כלל ישראל, the first Halacha of Chanuka, the י”ט that also separates the yidden, is that women shouldn’t work while the  נרות חנוכה are lit. The first סימן is תרע. וצונו להדליק נר חנכה=670=תרע. There is also a connection to the third pasuk in Parshas Toldos  ויעתר יצחק. The word עתר means pitchfork, implying that tefilla has the power to turn around מדת הדין to מדת הרחמים, from כי עקרה היא to  ותהר רבקה. Chanuka is a time of פקידת עקרות. Rosh Hashana was the time of פקידת שרה, and חנוכה is an extension of ר”ה, the גמר החתימה- ראש השנה=861=מתתיהו.

The last pasuk in the Parsha says וילך עשו אל ישמעאל. The pasuk says that נביות married her sister מחלת to Esav. Even though ישמעאל was involved in the “שידוך”, he was not there by the wedding because he was נפטר. The name מחלת means either that Esav received a  מחילת עונות by his wedding (like all חתן וכלה), or that she was another מחלה as Rashi says הוסיף רשעה על רשעתו. Esav wanted to show that he has more יחוס than יעקב, by marrying into the family of ישמעאל.   

The Torah says יצחק אוהב את עשו, and the question is,- the great צדיק Yitzhak didn’t know who Esav really was? Of course he did.  יצחק saw the קדושה in עשו-  ציד בפיוthat was trapped in him,   

יהי אור=232=כי ציד בפיו-  the root of T.B.P. – ר” עקיבא ר” מאיר שמעיה ואבטליון. As a matter of fact, it says that Esav had even more potential than Yaakov, and if he would have worked on himself, he could have been greater. Yishmael was not a yid, however Esav was a יהודי מומר. The חידא says that גרים only come from Esav, not from ישמעאל. Maybe the love that Yitzhak had toward Esav would bring out all this קדושה. Yaacov has to go into the boundary of Esav to retrieve the קדושה found there. The month of כסלו is in the boundary of Yaakov, whereas טבת is one of the three months still in the boundary of Esav- Teves, half of Shevat, Tamuz, and half of Av. Chanuka is the only י”ט that connects two months, כסלו and טבת, which represent ימין and שמאל. The פרשה begins ואלה תולדות יצחק אברהם הוליד את יצחק. Rashi says that Hashem made a miracle and made Yitzhak look exactly like his father so that the ליצני הדוד couldn’t say that Yitzhak was from אבימלך. Don’t all sons look like either their mother or father or both? However here the חידוש is that אברהם and יצחק had completely different spiritual מדות. Avraham is חסד and Yitzhak is דין. When it comes to the קדושה the two unite, and both are necessary. In the צד הטומאה the two don’t join well. Esav is  דין דקליפה and Yishmael is חסד שבקליפה. The י”ט that we witness the fusion of חסד and דין is חנוכה. According to ב”ה we add a candle- מוסיף והולך, each day מעלין בקודש, whereas according to ב”ש we decrease the number of candles each day – פוחת והולך learned from the פרי החג that decreased in number each day. We preform the mitzvah by lighting on the left side, outside, and below ten tefachim like ב”ש, however we add a candle each night מוסיף והולך, like ב”ה.

Another example of Chanuka being a mixture of left- דין and right- חסד, is נר חנוכה משמאל where טבת=411=משמאל, and according to the Ari Tzal כסלו is כנגד בנימין or בן ימין – כסלו=116=ימינו. So Chanuka joins the two months of ימין to שמאל. Jerusalem is also ימין as the pasuk says אם אשכחך י”ם תשכח ימיני, and דמשק is שמאל. Because Avraham ran to דמשק, Jerusalem will eventually extend to דמשק- שמונת ימי חנוכה=945=אשכחך ירושלים. From what we just said, we could see a big connection between the beginning of the Parsha and the end. At the beginning, the first pasuk is the union of right and left, חסד and דין of קדושה -Avraham and Yitzhak. The last pasuk says וילך עשו אל ישמעאל the attempted union of עשו- דין-left, with ישמעאל-חסד –right. We could see clearly in today’s world that the mixture of these two doesn’t work. Esav today leans more toward חסד – Love the whales, free love etc. Yishmael leans more toward דין, where the רוצחים and terrorists today are from the Muslim world. To counter balance this union in the קליפה, we have Chanuka    מעלין בקודש ופרי החג = 924 = וילך עשו אל ישמעאל.

Yishmael had twelve sons, and one daughter that we know- מחלת, his thirteenth child. In Tehillim, מחלת means dancing in a circle –  a musical instrument. The beauty of music is that the notes are   ימין and שמאל. Chanuka is the י”ט of music, praising and thanking Hashem. Levi has the status of the thirteenth שבט. Through מתתיהו who was a כהן from Levi, we merited the י”ט of Chanuka. The יונים breached the סורג in thirteen places, and the thirteen חשמונאים after defeating the Greeks, fixed the breached walls, and instituted that everyone had to bow down השתחויות in these thirteen places. On חנוכה the thirteen principles, the שלש עשרה מדות התורה נדרשת were revealed, along with the thirteen midos of רחמים.

The tremendous Brachos that Yaakov received from Yitzhak, began with  ויתן לך אלה-ים.Why would the Torah use the שם אלה-ים instead of הויה for such an important Bracha for all generations to come? The answer is that these Brachos are futuristic, where ימין ושמאל and חסד וגבורה unite. The Torah is compared to various liquids – wine, milk, water and oil. The Torah that’s compared to שמן is the highest level of Torah, or תורת הנסתר. This is Torah that Yaakov learnt in the fourteen years that he was נטמן in the ישיבה of עבר, in order to deal with the union of Esav with Yishmael. The Gemorra in  כתובות: קיא speaks of the ג שבועות that the yidden must abide by while in Galus. One of the שבועות is על יתגרו בם, not to antagonize the goyim –   עד מדרך כף רגל until Hashem sets his foot on הר הזיתים –

נר חנכה=333=כף רגל. Chanuka, being a הארה of the future light, the אור הזנוז, there are no restrictions and we could be פורץ גדר. Mashiach, who comes from פרץ, is a fusion of חסד ודין of ימין ושמאל, and he will use his mouth only to bring ישועה. On חנוכה we use only our mouths to thank and praise the רבונו של עולם.

The צירוף of Kislev is from וירא יושב הארץ הכנעני – ויהה. The ones that are steeped in ארציות don’t see. לב כסיל בשמאלו – כסיל בחשך וילך, the כסיל walks in darkness- כסליו טבת=537=כסיל משמאלו. On Chanuka even the כסיל sees- וירא. In תהילם צב pasuk ז says –   איש בער לא ידע וכסיל לא יבין את זאת. One peshat is that the כסיל doesn’t understand or want to understand עניני רוחני. The word זאת is made up of ז which stands for this world of seven, and את the whole א-ב of Torah. The כסיל doesn’t ‘chup’ the parts of זאת, or the connection of this world -ז to the next את-. Esav was a רשע, but has sparks of קדושה in him. Really the גבורה of קדושה is higher than חסד. In the future, when the world will be conducted with מדת הדין, Yitzhak will be מלמד זכות on the yidden. Chanuka is the י”ט of the future. The עבודה of a yid is to elevate the שמאל, the גשמיות. Yitzhak dug wells to reveal what’s hidden underneath  –   ותכהין עיניו מראת=1278=ויקרא שמה רחבות. Yitzhak was already in עולם הבא. He is the only of the אבות that lived a full life of one hundred and eighty years- חי x10. Yitzhak doesn’t see this world. He’s in the חשך דקדושה which is כנגד the חשך of יון.

In the last pasuk, representing the last גלות at the end of time, we learn from that אחות נביות married off מחלת to Esav, Yishmael had just died. Rashi learns here that Yaakov learned Torah for fourteen years- נטמן בבית עבר. As we said Yaakov learned the פנימיות התורה -נטמן, the hidden Torah to have the ammunition to ward off the union of Esav to Yishmael. According to the פרקי דר” אליעזר and the מדרשים, the רגל תרמוד ( in לשון הקודש)  of Chanuka- (עד דכליה רגלא דתרמודאי)  refers to Yishmael אחות נביות=883=רגל תרמוד. In the dream of Daniel, the רגל refers to עשו and ישמעאל – the feet נצח and הוד which is Chanuka. When the judgement of ר”ה ויה”כ did not go well for a yid, he has the grace period tillחנוכה  which affects those yidden that fell below ten tefachim, are on the left and are בחוץ.

In pasuk כז:כב is written the pasuk ויאמר הקל קול יעקב והידים ידי עשו. The מדרש says that when הקל קול יעקב then לא הידים ידי עשו, which means that when the yidden are using their קול properly, then Esav’s power is diminished. However the מפורשים have a problem with this Midrash, in that the pasuk doesn’t say לא. The Vilna Goan says that the הקל is missing a ו, meaning that when the קול of yidden are חסר, are weak, then the hands of Esav are strong, and vice versa, that when our קול is בשלמות, than לא הידים ידי עשו. Why does it mention קול twice? The yidden have the התורה קול and the קול תפילה. So which קול in the pasuk is חסר ו? The Zohar says that any time we see a קל w/o the ו, then this is referring to tefilla, since the Torah is learnt out loud, and the main part of tefilla שמונה עשרה is said בלחש, silent. If we fit this into the Gra, the power of Esav is strong, when our tefilla is weak, and when we מתחזק in our tefillos, then  לא הידים ידי עשו.
